Milan

We flew into Milan on Saturday morning and caught a cab to the hotel. Some touts had tried to get us to pay for a van at their desk at the airport but it would have been three times the price of a cab. We negotiated with the cab driver to make sure that the 'meter price' was going to be only a little more pricey than train tickets. After a 5am start and a wait until 12.30pm for our room, we collapsed for a rest in our room. Sophie and Will had already kept themselves entertained with the X-box and table soccer. We then went on a short trip into the city - mostly to get our bearings and to make sure that we could negotiate the metro. We take 3 stops from Ca Granda into Zara then change lines for another 6 stops to Duomo (about half an hour altogether). The advantage of staying out at Ca Granda is that there are a few parks around to keep Will busy. Our first glimpse of the city was the view of Duomo from the metro entrance - very impressive! One of the first few shops that we came across was the Ferrari shop - so Will had something other than big buildings to impress him too. I wandered on for longer than the others, with John taking very tired kids back to the hotel. I had to take a look at La Rinascente shopping centre - even taking this photo of chocolate shoes and looking out from the rooftop gallery to the Duomo.
