We kept to our plan to visit Amoudi Bay on Monday morning. It was a long, uneventful walk up into town and down to the bay. I swam across to the island with the kids but John wasn't very keen to go in. As with all of the beaches that we have come across in Greece, it was not particularly clean. I'm sure that there are cleaner places but the trade-off is then being further away from the historic sites, etc... After keeping an eye on our bags and heating up on a rock in the sun, John decided to help Will find a small jumping platform (about 1m high). There were plenty of adults jumping off the 'big rock' so John gave that a go as well. We spent most of the rest of the day back in the apartment, except for a quick trip by John, Sophie and Will to the naval museum. I'd visited it with the kids previously. We then braved the crowds in the narrow streets of Oia for some evening photos. As the evening was still warm and we hadn't swum in the local public pool, I took Sophie and Will back up to town for a final swim while John did some packing and cooking. Will found his favourite town dogs asleep on the footpath on the way home and Sophie spotted one of the many, many, many Oia cats.
We left our cave house the following morning (Tuesday), meeting a pre-arranged transfer at the town car park - with four of us travelling, it was a similar price to the two bus tickets each that we would have needed. John and Will braved the bag carrying up approx. 180 steps and Sophie and I carried the day packs. The flight back into Athens was almost on time and we found the complimentary hotel shuttle easily. We were at the hotel around midday so Sophie and Will found the TV (a rarity for them over the past few weeks) and we all then found a petrol station on the freeway outside that served reasonable meals. Sophie and Will had a swim before collapsing for an early sleep before an even earlier flight the next morning. We were up at 4.45pm and at reception by 5.15am for a 5.30 transfer. We arrived at the airport before 6am for an 8am flight and had time for hot chocolates and pastries for breakfast. Santorini airport had been chaotic but Athens airport was very organised.
