Malta - Valletta

We decided to have a couple of days of 'holiday' in Saint Julians (near Valletta) between our holiday rentals. So, after arriving at Malta (Luqa) airport on Wednesday we caught a cab into town and relaxed by the pool until our room was ready. John went out into the street and found us some pizza for lunch - at 90euro cents per slice, it was a more sensible option than eating at the hotel. Later that afternoon, I went for a walk along the waterfront and we all went out to find dinner. John then also went for an evening walk. Sophie and Will spent most of the following day (Thursday) in or around the pool - playing with the red handball that we have carted with us from the UK (having lost another in a tree at Terrington). They also found an indoor pool and swam some laps.

We had a nice dinner at a nearby pasta/pizza restaurant and packed up again for one of our final moves. Sophie and Will are becoming excellent bag packers and have realised that if they want to squeeze in extra swims, then then need to be organised. Sophie and Will managed to squeeze in a swim on Thursday night and I managed a swim with them on Friday morning before catching a cab out to Marsaxalokk. The taxi driver hadn't heard of our dead-end street. We gave him a printed map and he managed to track down the lane way leading into our area. We had a pre-arranged 11am meeting time but think that they were probably expecting a phone call from us on arrival. It took a while to sort out country codes and finally make John's phone dial through to the apartment upstairs, so that we could check in!
