After an early start on Sunday morning, we caught a Blue Star Ferry out to Santorini via Paros and Naxos. The cliffs coming into Santorini were impressive and we could pick out the houses of Oia, which is where we are staying. Our host (Ana) had offered to organise a transfer and porter and we were pleased that we took up the offer, given the overload of passengers and bags to fit into the town's taxis. When we arrived at Oia the advantage of having a porter arranged (for 2 of our 4 bags) was that he met us at the car park and took us straight to the right cave house. We were impressed with our house from the outset, not only the comfort and views but also our host, who immediately offered us biscuits topped with local tomatoes and capers, and cheese from Crete. She also prepared a turkey and rice dinner for our first night on the island! With the end of the tourist season approaching, the studio apartment above is vacant, so Sophie and Will have been offered that accommodation for our stay. They also met Ana's 8 year old daughter (Anatoli) who gave them presents, including a dress for Sophie. We had a quiet afternoon with a short walk through town mostly to get groceries and a general unpack. We were warned about the number of steps up to the village and the number down to the beach. So far, the steps up to Oia haven't been too taxing.
