We dropped John at York Station last Monday for his returned to Australia for 2 weeks, flying out of Heathrow. He is heading back for his nephew's wedding and to catch up with family. Not sure how he will cope with 2 x 24h flights in 2 weeks! We made the most of the holiday Monday, with a walk around the York city walls and a visit to the 'Dig' Jorvic activity. I continued my walking on Tuesday, to Crakye and Easingwold from Stillington.
Will's cricket team played against Bow, Durham on Wednesday, which is about an hour and a half away. I drove out across Sutton Bank and on the A19 to watch. Durham is an amazing city and I had time to walk up to the cathedral before the game started. They played at the senior school because the junior fields were wet but had tea at the junior school. The sports teams (cricket, rounders, etc...) host a 'tea' (juice, sandwiches, cakes and sometimes even hot chips) for each other either between innings or at the end of the games. Parents are also invited in for a cuppa. The teams travel to the match on a school minibus. Those with parents at the game tend to go home with their parents but because we are living at Terrington, Will wanted to travel back on the bus. On my way back, I had a call from Sophie asking whether she could board that night. I came back via the A1 and there were delays for road works. So, I returned late and had to get Will home and fed and get PJs up to school for Sophie, as well as an ironed uniform for school photos the following day.
