Pheasants

The week is flying by. Monday's walk from Kirkham Abbey towards Malton created a few challenges. When the sign said 'keep dogs on leads - bull in paddock' they were serious about there being a bull in the paddock. Sometimes the signs seem to be just to deter walkers. When the sign said 'bog', it meant bog (Jeffry Bog) - at least we have had some dry weather to dry out the track - warm sunny days. The boys were even allowed to take their ties off at school because of the heat. (Sophie said that she was still a bit cold in the shade when she took off her jumper. ) I'm still amazed by the number of pheasants that have been released and occasionally appear on the roadside before disappearing into the hedge rows.

On Tuesday, I went into Clifton Moor to have some Australian photos printed and pick up some boots for Will to wear in the school play. Then, back to Terrington to watch the Terrington boys achieve a resounding victory over Red House in the cricket (about 90 to 30, for 20 overs each). Wednesday was a relaxing day - attempting to plan Europe travel. Quite a few places are booking out quickly - so, we will need to lock in some of the accommodation next week. Looks as though we will be able to do a mixture of air, train and boat travel. We then had a wonderful play afternoon and dinner with another school family. The boys had a run around outside, the girls worked on their make-up and then they all had a hit of tennis. I had a chance to drink tea and relax while dinner was prepared for us.

The only challenge on this morning's walk was the stinging nettles. Most of the tracks are very well maintained - but there has been some quick spring growth since the last mowing. I've now walked from Easingwold to Malton - in both directions - as I have to park the car and walk back to it again! Not sure if I'll make it to the coast over the next few weeks.
