Frankfurt and Rudesheim

The trip to Frankfurt (via Cologne) on Sunday was uneventful, with some of the view obscured by sound proof fencing. We saw what we presume were Turkish football supporters crossing the Rhine at Mainz, with thousands of padlocks on the side of the rail/pedestrian bridge. We stayed at a very basic Holiday Inn, which was a couple of km walk from Frankfurt Station and had dinner at a nice restaurant on the River Main, where the waiters only had limited English. The following morning worked out the ticket system to get ourselves on a 'direct' train to Bingen. From Bingen, we had to walk into town to catch the ferry across to Rudesheim am Rhine. Sophie and Will weren't impressed with the gravel on the track to the ferry or the cobbles in Rudesheim. Back packing with wheels has its advantages - until arriving in old towns! Rudesheim is fabulous and we are pleased with the place that we have picked. We spent most of our first afternoon doing a short wander around, stocking the fridge and relaxing. We even tested some Rhine Riesling from our host's cellar.
