Rudesheim pool and wine museum

Plenty of sunny weather again! Today (Sunday) I took Sophie and Will for a swim at a local pool on the Rhine while John braved a hill climb through the vineyards and to a local monastery. After lunch at our apartment (baguette, cheese and salami - again) we headed to the station to see if we could pick up a train to Wiesbaden. As we had just missed a train, instead we wandered into the Niederbung wine museum built within the 'oldest castle on the Rhine'. The museum was fabulous with many old timber wine presses outside, detail about grape growing and barrel making, through to superb handcrafted wine glasses from 2000 years ago. We also tasted a couple of local wines. The reislings here are so much drier and less sweet than at home - and much more drinkable. We finished the evening with dinner at a semi-traditional restaurant (the Ratsstube) that our hosts had recommended. John had a form of mixed grill and I had pork with apple.
