Frankfurt and Vienna

We left Rudesheim, via ferry to Bingen, walk to the station and train to Frankfurt. We were quite tired when we added the walk from Frankfurt station to our motel (about 2 km away). After recovering for an hour or so, we caught a cab into central Frankfurt for a wander around the old square and the newer shopping district. As we were tired, we even opted for a Burger King dinner.

The following morning (last Tuesday) we caught the train to Vienna, expecting to have an easy ride on a highly efficient German Bahn train. We were at the station early for a 8.30 am train and all went well, with great countryside views, until we reached Nuremburg and were advised that there would be a 2 hour delay. The best option ended up being 3 different trains in succession along similar lines. We arrived in Vienna about 20 minutes prior to the delayed train and caught a cab to our hotel. Later that evening we wandered down to the Danube which is only a few blocks from where we are staying.

Wednesday was rainy so we spent most of the day on the 'hop on hop off' Vienna bus, to get our bearings - with a visit to the Natural History Museum in the afternoon. The museum has 30 million items either on display or in storage - ranging from fossils to preserved animals - and the largest meteorite collection in the world. We also learnt the underground system and bought a weekly pass - which has made it very easy to get around.
